Nigerians from all walks of life have come together to support victims of the devastating floods that ravaged Maiduguri. The Alau Dam burst, causing widespread damage and displacement.
The Borno State Government announced that it has received over N12 billion in donations, both in cash and materials, for the flood-affected residents. The North East Development Commission (NEDC) led the way with a generous contribution of N3 billion and food supplies.
Aliko Dangote, a prominent businessman, added N2 billion to the relief fund. Other notable donors included Aminu Dantata, Mohammed Indimi, and the Borno Local Government Areas.
The list of contributors also featured prominent political figures such as Oluremi Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi. State governments, including Bauchi and Niger, as well as the people of Southern Borno, also made significant contributions.
Corporations and individuals alike joined the relief efforts. The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Matrix Energy donated trucks of essential supplies worth over N120 million each.
The overwhelming response to the Maiduguri flood disaster demonstrates the compassion and resilience of Nigerians. As the affected communities begin the long road to recovery, these donations will provide much-needed support and hope.
