Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso has officially assumed his role as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
President Bola Tinubu appointed Cardoso as the acting Governor following the resignation of Godwin Emefiele, pending confirmation by the Senate.
Furthermore, the Deputy-Governors-Designate have also taken up their duties in acting capacities, following the formal resignations of Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr. Kingsley Obiora as Deputy Governors of the CBN.
Dr. Cardoso and his colleagues took their oaths of office at a brief ceremony held at the Bank’s Head Office in Abuja on Friday. They have since begun the task of overseeing the implementation of monetary and financial sector policies for the Federal Government.
Dr. Cardoso, an Economic and Development Policy Advisor and former Chairman of Citi Nigeria, brings over three decades of managerial experience to the role. He is also a former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos. He is an alumnus of Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where he studied managerial and administrative studies.
