The 11th All-African University Games (FASU) concluded with a resounding victory for the American International University in Cairo, who secured their third consecutive gold medal.
The 10-day event, held in Lagos, Nigeria, saw a strong performance from the host universities, with Lagos State University (LASU) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) claiming second and third place, respectively.The closing ceremony was marked by emotional farewells between athletes from 68 African universities. Zambian athletes Mutinta Hebeene and Peter Morga expressed their sadness at parting ways with newfound friends but emphasized the importance of staying connected through social media.The Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) President, Bawa Mohammed, hailed the 11th FASU Games as a historic event for Nigeria, highlighting the benefits it brought to over 1,000 young athletes. He emphasized the event’s success in fostering connections and bridging borders among African youth.University officials also underscored the significance of sports in education and development. The Vice Chancellors of LASU and UNILAG praised the Local Organizing Committee for their excellent work and encouraged student-athletes to continue pursuing excellence in their respective fields.As the torch is passed to American International University in Cairo for the next FASU Games, the 2024 edition will be remembered for its competitive spirit, cultural exchange, and lasting friendships forged among African university athletes.
