Gunmen Kill Six Near UNIZIK School Gate

Earlier today, gunmen suspected to be cultists opened gunfire near the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) gate in Awka, Anambra State, killing at least six.

According to eyewitnesses, the intruders targeted members of a rival cult organization, sparking commotion and terror among nearby neighbors and students. A student who observed the attack detailed the terrifying scenario, stating that the shooting took place at 9:30 AM near Witness Garden on Ifite Amansea Road. They reported that “over six people were shot dead,” and that a lecturer on her way to the institution turned back after seeing the carnage.

According to the report, officers responded to the gunfire shortly after it occurred. He stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the armed guys fired indiscriminately, fatally wounding four people who were then transported to the hospital. Police discovered many spent shell casings in the area, and investigations are ongoing to find the perpetrators.

As investigations continue, the community is still disturbed by this act of violence, highlighting continued worries about security and cult-related activity in the neighborhood.
