A Boost to Nigeria’s Aviation Sector
Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s leading airlines, has made a significant stride in the aviation industry by launching direct flight operations between Lagos and London. This development, which took effect on March 30, 2024, marks a monumental achievement for the airline and a positive impact on the country’s economy.
The commencement of the Lagos-London route comes after Air Peace announced its plans to operate direct flights to London during a prelaunch forum in February. The airline’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Allen Onyema, had earlier obtained the necessary permits to operate flights to Europe and the United Kingdom, demonstrating Air Peace’s readiness to expand its international operations.
The inaugural flight from Lagos to London was a historic moment, with the airline’s Boeing 777 carrying 260 passengers aboard. Among the dignitaries on the flight were the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anita, who commended Air Peace for its achievement.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, also lauded Air Peace for its successful inaugural flight, describing it as a milestone in Nigeria’s aviation industry. He praised Allen Onyema for his entrepreneurial spirit and relentless pursuit of excellence, noting that Air Peace’s resumption of flights on the lucrative Lagos-London route since 2019 is a historic event worth celebrating.
Also, the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, congratulated Allen Onyema and the entire team at Air Peace for commencing direct flights from Lagos to London. He highlighted the economic benefits of the new route, including offering unbeatable fares to Nigerian travelers, saving foreign exchange, creating jobs, and contributing to economic growth.
Air Peace, founded in 2013 by Allen Onyema, has grown to become Nigeria’s flag carrier and the largest airline in West Africa. The airline’s commitment to providing economic opportunities for Nigerian youth has been evident since its inception. With its expansion into international routes and the launch of the Lagos-London service, Air Peace is not only enhancing its market presence but also contributing significantly to Nigeria’s aviation sector and economy at large.
In conclusion, Air Peace’s commencement of direct flights between Lagos and London is a positive development for Nigeria’s aviation sector. It represents a milestone in the country’s quest for improved air connectivity and economic growth. As Air Peace continues to expand its operations, it is poised to further elevate Nigeria’s status in the global aviation industry.
