The Nigeria student loan application just got easier with the announcement from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) opening its application portal on May 24, 2024. This step underscores President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring educational access for all Nigerian students.
President Tinubu’s dedication to education reform was evident when he signed the Access to Higher Education Act, 2023, into law on June 12, 2023. This act, also known as the Students Loan Law, enables indigent students to access interest-free loans for their tertiary education. This initiative fulfills one of Tinubu’s campaign promises to revolutionize education funding in Nigeria.
The delay in launching the scheme, initially scheduled for September, was due to Tinubu’s directive to expand the program to include loans for vocational skills. Recognizing the importance of skill acquisition, Tinubu emphasized that the scheme should cater to all young Nigerians, not just those pursuing traditional academic paths.
The NELFund portal offers a user-friendly interface for students to submit their loan applications conveniently. Eligible students are encouraged to seize this opportunity to invest in their future and contribute to the nation’s growth and development.
