FCCPC Locks Sights on MultiChoice’s Price Hike

MultiChoice’s Price Hike has caught the attention of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), prompting plans to review the recent increases in cable subscriptions to ensure Nigerian subscribers get value for their money.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television on its ‘Dateline Abuja’ programme, the Acting CEO of FCCPC, Adamu Abdullahi, stated that relevant stakeholders would be involved in the review process.

Abdullahi also provided updates on other matters, including the summons issued to the owner of a Chinese store in Abuja accused of discriminatory and sharp practices, as well as the agency’s monitoring of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company’s compliance with its directives.

MultiChoice recently announced fresh price increases for its DStv and GOtv packages, citing the rise in the cost of business operations. The new prices are set to take effect on May 1, 2024.
