Actress Cynthia Okereke Gently Exits the Stage at 63

Veteran Nollywood Actress Cynthia Okereke Passes Away at 63, a Year after Kidnapping Incident

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, renowned Nollywood actress Cynthia Okereke has tragically passed away at the age of 63, exactly one year after her abduction. The news was shared by her colleague in the entertainment industry, Joseph Okechukwu.

Cynthia Nkiru Okereke was widely celebrated for her exceptional talent in acting, her vibrant personality, her entrepreneurial spirit, and her philanthropic endeavors. She left an indelible mark on the Nigerian film industry and beyond.

According to Joseph Okechukwu, he had intended to arrange Cynthia Okereke’s flight to America to continue their collaborative work, but fate dealt a cruel blow as she departed from this world on Tuesday night.

“REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma. I’m shattered beyond words. The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come finish what we started only to hear that you went to be with the Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with in recent times. I pray I’m able to recover from this shock. Life is really just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t,” Joseph expressed sorrowfully on Twitter.

It is worth noting that Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel were abducted while returning from a movie set in Ozalla town, Enugu state, on Friday, July 29, 2022. The news of their disappearance was initially broken by Monalisa Chinda, the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s Director of Communications.

The concerned family members reported their absence after the shooting, sparking widespread concern. Fortunately, after enduring a few days in the clutches of their captors, both actors were eventually released.

Cynthia Okereke’s sudden departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her. Her amiable personality, her remarkable talent, and her significant contributions to the Nigerian film industry will always be cherished. May her gentle soul find eternal rest until we reunite in glory.
